Sherri LewisFrom the Heart...

Me and my best friend/prayer partner have been on this obsessive pursuit of purpose and destiny since we met eight years ago. We’ve sought to develop an intimate relationship with the Holy Spirit so we can always know what’s on God’s heart for our lives. We’ve realized that we’ll never know true happiness and success until we figure out exactly what God put us in the earth to do. We’ve spent hours in prayer seeking our God ordained destiny and then have pledged to pursue it with all our hearts.

In seeking to manifest His Kingdom in the earth, we’ve realized there’s so much to do. Lately we’ve gotten lost in the planning, trying to figure out where the money’s supposed to come from, plotting the steps to achieve our goals (hopefully His goals), and making the contacts to make things happen. We’ve gotten impatient and frustrated with the waiting. And waiting and waiting and waiting… The frustration began to impact our emotions, daily attitude and personal time with God.

A few weeks ago in prayer, I felt the Holy Spirit telling me the reason for my frustration was that my focus was off. I got a little huffy with Him – “my focus is building the Kingdom of God, fulfilling my destiny and creating a place where others can discover, pursue, and fulfill their destiny. That’s what You told us to do. How can my focus be off?”

He let me calm down and then gently explained. I realized that even in pursuing destiny, we can lose sight of what’s most important. Pursuing Him. Relationship, intimacy, oneness, living in His presence – these still must come first. I broke in His “arms”, cried out my frustrations, then fell asleep in the sweetness of His presence. I realized that my worship and intimacy time had been replaced with chasing destiny.

So lately, instead of running into the throne room and asking “what’s next, where’s the money coming from, who’s gonna do this, how are we gonna accomplish that”, I climb up into His “lap” lay my head on His “chest” and just snuggle with my heavenly Daddy. These are the sweetest times and make everything else in life doable. Now I’ve pledged not only to pursue purpose and destiny, but first and foremost, to always be in passionate pursuit of His Presence.
